Level Target and Goal Details
1 Target Adults with no prior knowledge in Korean - Consonants and vowels
- Basic pronunciation
- Basic sentence structure and types
- Daily vocabularies
- Greeting, introduction, purchasing, ordering,  asking directions
Goal To learn basic knowledge in Korean including pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar and to cultivate minimal communication level necessary in daily interactions
2 Target Learners who received 200 hours of Korean education or passed level 1 of Korean Proficiency Test - Sound changes and accuate pronunciation
- Vocabulary for public facilities
- Formal and informal language
- Conversation on daily life including family,
   personality, weather, health, hobby and    traffic
- Calling, asking a favor, making promise,   proposal or suggestion, refusing
Goal To learn basic linguistic functions necessary for daily life and to nurture basic communication skills for use in public facilities like bank, post office and hospital
3 Target Learners who received 400 hours of Korean education or passed level 2 of Korean Proficiency Test - Vocabularies and expressions related to    social life including work and school
- Finding information in advertisement,   interview, weather forecast and documents
- Various communication techniques
- Explaining, describing, comparing,
   apologizing, delivering words
Goal To perform basic linguistic functions necessary to use public facilities and maintain social relationships
4 Target Learners who received 600 hours of Korean education or passed level 3 of Korean Proficiency Test - Idioms and proverbs often used
- Distinction between written and spoken    languages
- Understanding mass media including radio,    television and newspaper
- Problem solving, expressing opinions on    given topics, coping with specific situations
Goal To understand Korean culture and learn various linguistic functions necessary for customary expressions and social activities
5 Target Learners who received 800 hours of Korean language education or passed level 4 of Korean Proficiency Test - Abstract vocabularies on social phenomena
- Language necessary for research and work
- Understanding and expression for Korean politics, economy, culture and society
- Various communication techniques
- Summarizing, discussing, writing reports
Goal To distinguish between formal, informal, written and spoken languages based on understanding of Korean culture and society
6 Target Learners who received 1,000 hours of Korean language education or passed level 5 of Korean Proficiency Test - Professional vocabularies, complex idioms,   proverbs and four-character idioms that  express Korean society and culture
- Expressing one's thoughts on Korean society and culture through speaking and writing
- Writing reports, speech drafts and official documents
- Understanding expository writings, editorials, news and broadcasting stories through reading or listening
- Prooving, reasoning, discussing
Goal To cultivate communication ability necessary for conducting research or work in Korean society or one's professional career
※ Students who don't have TOPIK certificate should take a placement test.
